French Translation
Requirements to review French versions – as of April 2024 and until further notice – will be confirmed by signing authorities on a case by case basis, with consideration to the following factors:
- Risk level of the report, including relative risks for:
- financial value/financial impact of the project;
- inclusion of regulated activity or public/private benefit considerations; significance of funder relationship for the project or MakeWay;
- whether it’s government, whether there’s potential for Access to Information act or other legislative measures; and
- any others as may arise related to the project, specific report, or MakeWay’s needs/position at the time.
- Whether an English report is available, and the specific method of development for French content (eg, was it created in English and professionally translated? EN and FR content developed separately? Informal translation such as by staff or virtual tools?).
Measures may include requesting fluent MW staff to review, obtaining translation or external review support.
- While not a decision, at this time, guidance is such that documents solely in French are anticipated to require translation to English prior to approval. The responsibility for cost of translation for such documents will also be determined on a case by case basis, considering factors that include available budget and capacity, risk level, and any others that may arise as related to the project, specific report, or MakeWay’s needs/position at the time.
