Proposals submitted via MakeWay Foundation
Process to be followed in either of the following two scenarios:
- Funder eligibility requirements indicate limit of one application per charitable number and multiple shared platform projects intend on applying
- American funder eligibility requirements limit applications to 501c3 organizations
- Confirm MWCS application submission via MWF for either scenario 1 or 2 above.
SCENARIO 1:
- Coordinator to confirm with Foundation (currently KeunWoo) that no MWF program applying for opportunity
- Shared Platform team follows One Charitable Number process to determine project(s) selected to go forward. Where Project application via MWF being considered, Shared Platform team to conduct initial eligibility assessment for MWF, and where appropriate, recommend Project application that aligns with MWF purposes.
- Coordinator to share details of proposed Project application for MWF submission. Business Analyst (KeunWoo) to confirm permission for Project submission via MWF.
SCENARIO 2:
- Upon determination that 501c3 application is required, Shared Platform team to carry out initial eligibility assessment and where appropriate, recommend Project application via MWF.
- Coordinator to share details of proposed Project application for MWF submission. Business Analyst (KeunWoo) to confirm permission for Project submission via MWF
NOTE: The application content must align with the Foundation's charitable objects. The Project Specialist should consider this before moving forward with a submission through MakeWay Foundation.
- Shared Platform Coordinator creates two Salesforce opportunities:
- Foundation opportunity: A189 as Primary Fund, funder as Account
- Society opportunity: Project as Primary Fund, MakeWay Foundation as Account
- In the “Description” field on each opportunity, make a note referencing the corresponding opportunity and add the link to the other opportunity. E.g., “MakeWay Charitable Society - Black Environmental Initiative applying via the Foundation. Society oppy:https://makeway.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Opportunity/006JR00000BwXF1YAN/view”
- Update both opportunities along the way and add all documents to both
- Shared Platform Coordinator determines if the proposal is submitted by email or through a portal:
- If portal:
- Check with Business Analyst (KeunWoo) to see if there is already a login created for the Foundation.
- If there is no Foundation account already created, set one up using MakeWay Foundation information
- Create a new ID and password with MWF entity name.If the ID is email address driven one, you can use partnerships@makeway.org.
- If portal:
- Complete “Organization” Sections of the application
- Use MakeWay Foundation charitable number 868947797 RR0001
- Primary and Secondary contact for proposal/ application
- Project Specialist and/or Director, Shared Platform
- Collect supporting documents for MakeWay Foundation
- Organization Mission and primary activities questions:
- [project name] is a project on MakeWay's shared platform, which provides operational supports, governance, and charitable expertise for changemakers. The shared platform enables more time and money to go towards achieving greater impact. MakeWay is a national charity that builds partnerships and solutions to help nature and communities thrive together.

- Activities: As applicable: MakeWay Foundation provides expertise to the operations and strategy of charitable initiatives. [project name] is focused on [activities].
- Proposal review
- The proposal should be reviewed by the project’s Project Specialist and Finance Advisor as well as Director, Policy & Research and Business Analyst. (Todd Jaques)
- Project Specialist provides signing notes for Foundation signing authority:
- Danae requested that she wants to see two set of Finance signing notes one from the project’s Finance Advisor and one from whoever who is performing the finance review function for the foundation
- Signing/approvals
- Note: Shared Platform Managers and Director, Shared Platform are not able to sign/ approve on behalf of the Foundation. Director, Policy & Research (Todd) also does not have signing authority.
- Check the signing certificates folder to know who should sign on behalf of the Foundation (most likely this will be CFO and/ or Director, Finance i.e. Gayle and Danae)
