Glossary of Shared Platform Language
Salesforce Language
Account: Specific to shared platform opportunities, an account is the entity providing the funds.
Award: An award is the type of opportunity record used for a grant from a entity. It often requires a formal application proposal, and it advances project/program work. It is typically driven by a funder's mandate and stewarded through staff-level relationships. Awards often requires reporting back to the funder.
Award Code: A non-Salesforce way of referring to a revenue code (see revenue code definition)
Child Fund: In Salesforce, a child fund refers to a specific area of work or operations that a shared platform project undertakes. Every project is set up in Salesforce with one Parent Fund and at least one Child Fund. Any incoming funds must be allocated to a Child Fund.
Close Date: The earliest date that the first payment is reasonably expected to be received. In the absence of better information, the Close Date is set for four months after the Proposal Submission Date. The Close Date automatically becomes the Payment Scheduled Date, unless the latter is changed manually.
Contact: Contacts in Salesforce represent the individual people associated with accounts that MakeWay does business with.
Development Manager: In Salesforce language, the development manager is the project specialist.
Fund: In Salesforce, fund = shared platform project
Fund Code: The number that automatically gets assigned to a shared platform project when it is created in Salesforce (e.g., East Scarborough Storefront's fund code is P048).
Funder: A person or organization that provides funding to a shared platform project for a particular purpose.
Funder Program or Stream: A particular program or area of focus that a funder provides funds for. E.g., Toronto Foundation's Black and Indigenous Futures Fund stream has been designed specifically to support Black and Indigenous leaders, organizations, and grassroots groups who are best equipped to identify and advance solutions for their communities as they adapt to today’s circumstances, and push for an equitable and just recovery from the challenges of COVID-19.
No Award (or NOAWARD): In shared platform finance, No Award means that the incoming revenue does not need a revenue code. If we don't need to report on how the funds were spent, the money goes to NOAWARD.
Opportunity: Opportunities are set up for all incoming revenue, whether received, declined, or in progress. Opportunity records track details about the revenue, including which funder (account) the money is coming from, which project (fund) the money is going to, and the amount. Also known affectionately as "oppys"
Parent Fund: Similar to a Fund, a parent fund is what we call a shared platform project. When a project is added to Salesforce, it is created as the parent fund.
Primary Affiliation: On a contact record, the Primary Affiliation field is used to track which account the individual (contact) is affiliated with.
Primary Fund: The child fund (to which we expect the revenue will most likely be designated.
Revenue Code: Salesforce language for the code given to an opportunity when we need to be able to track expenses related to that specific amount of funding. If a funder requires that we submit a financial report indicating how the funds were spent, the opportunity would require a revenue code. The project specialist or finance lead will typically communicate the need for a revenue code to the coordinators.
