Services-In-Kind Opportunities

Services-In-Kind are defined as:

  • Non-cash services (e.g. pro-bono agreements and third-party services).
  • Require a formal agreement.
  • If the opportunity is reported as in-kind support, a value must be assigned.
  • Often requires a formal application process.
  • No charitable tax receipt issued.

If we have an agreement that meets the criteria above, use the Services-in-Kind opportunity record type:

  1.  Project to provide project specialist with an amount and date by which we expect the services to be completed. Project specialist to pass information on to coordinator.
  2. Coordinator will create the Services-in-Kind opportunity
  3. Coordinator creates a task for themself to follow up with the project or project specialist once the close date is reached. If the services have been completed, the payment can be submitted.
    • The project should provide documentation of some kind indicating that the services have been provided. Coordinators will save this documentation on the opportunity.
  4. Submit payments to Irene, even if she is not the finance lead for the project
    • Services-in-Kind are designed so that marking them as paid will NOT result in a financial transaction in NetSuite (since there is no financial transaction)
    • Irene will let Emily Wang know to mark the payment as paid to complete the records
