3. Managing and Qualifying prospects - b) Record prospect ideas in Salesforce
The Development Team follows a defined process for qualifying any prospect submitted to [email protected]. This process is described below.
b) Record prospect ideas in Salesforce
The prospect researcher will be responsible for recording the new prospect idea appropriately in Salesforce. The Development prospect researcher will receive an e-mail notification of all incoming prospect ideas with a link to the resulting case record in Salesforce.
For any new prospect case received the Senior TCF Coordinator should:
- Open the case in Salesforce by clicking the link in the notification e-mail or from the “Open Development Cases” list view.
- Check to ensure the Contact field of the case record is set to the person from whom the prospect idea originated. For example, if a development staff member forwarded a prospect idea originally shared by a Strategic Programs team member, the Contact field should be changed to the person who originally provided the idea.
- Determine whether the prospect idea relates to a new prospect or to an existing Tides Canada donor/prospect by following these steps:
- Search for the prospect in Salesforce
- For individual prospects, open any existing contact record. For organizations, open an existing account record. If no existing contact or account record exists for the prospect, then they are new to Tides Canada (skip to step 4).
- Scan any opportunities with Award, Major Gift, or Fee for Service record type that appear in the opportunities related list to determine whether any of them meet both the following criteria.
- a Strategic Programs team member, the Contact field should be changed to the person who originally provided the idea.
4. Record the prospect based on the determination made in the previous step:

5. Set the Prospect Entry Date field on the case record to today’s date.
