2. Identifying and recording revenue opportunities - b) Submit a prospect idea to the Development team

All potential revenue opportunities for Tides Canada Foundation that have been identified should be recorded in Salesforce. Observe the following process for ensuring prospective funding opportunities are appropriately identified and recorded in Salesforce.

b) Submit a prospect idea to the Development team

The Development team supports all of Tides Canada Foundation by providing prospect management services. Staff are invited to submit prospect ideas to Development at any time at [email protected]. Development will provide the following prospect management supports:

  • Entering new prospects into Salesforce
  • Obtaining research on prospects
  • Rating prospects’ capacity and likeliness to give
  • Coordinating internal discussions and decision-making concerning prospect strategy and clearance
  • Proactively identifying connections and relationships with prospects among Tides Canada staff, Board members or other stakeholders
  • Developing and recommending prospect strategies
  • Proactively identifying and developing prospect lists for new and existing programs

Tides Canada staff can submit prospect ideas to the Development team at any time by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. When submitting a prospect, be sure to include the following information in your message:

  • name and any contact information about the prospect
  • potential alignment with Tides Canada services, programs or projects
  • key contacts affiliated with the prospect (for corporate or foundation prospects)
  • who identified the prospect and why
  • any insights on the prospect’s potential connection to or interest in Tides Canada
  • the name of any Board member or donor who has agreed to help us approach the prospect and what action they are willing to take.
  • any next steps that were proposed internally or externally to develop the prospect

When a new message is received to [email protected], a case is automatically generated in Salesforce and assigned to a Development team member. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with a reference number. A member of the Development team will respond to your request within one week or earlier.

The development team will follow a defined process in managing all prospect ideas sent [email protected]. This process is described under the
Prospect management” section.
