Overview

Creating an inclusive statutory holiday policy will allow flexibility by you, MakeWay Foundation employees, to take holidays that are aligned with your culture, faith tradition, values, worldviews, and/or dates of significance, giving the option to choose holidays that are meaningful to you or observe a holiday with a new meaning or interpretation. This is also an act of decolonization in the shift from western interpretations and traditions that have historically guided holiday policies.

Substitution statutory holiday process

All MakeWay Foundation employees are eligible for statutory holidays as of your first day of work. Statutory holidays are subject to change based on provincial/territory legislation. Statutory holidays for each employee are determined by the employee’s home address.

Moving forward, MakeWay Foundation will close all offices across Canada for National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21st.

Additionally, all MakeWay Foundation offices are closed in December 24-January 3, 2021.

Substitute statutory holiday tracker

The Substitute Statutory Holiday Tracker will be circulated each year, the first week of January, to fill out for the year ahead. Substitution dates must be scheduled the first 2 weeks of January for the calendar year. This is an “opt in” process. Substitute Statutory Holiday dates are to be observed as scheduled.
